Description
Mourning Doves are plump-bodied and long-tailed, with short legs, small bill, and a head that looks particularly small in comparison to the body. The long, pointed tail is unique among North American doves.
The plumage is generally light gray-brown and lighter and pinkish below. The wings have black spotting, and the outer tail feathers are white, contrasting with the black inners.
This species' call is a distinctive, plaintive cooOOoo-woo-woo-woooo, uttered by males to attract females.
